Whidbey Island
About
Starting in March of 2019, I Support the Girls-Whidbey Island (ISTG-WI) began its quest to aid local women, girls and folx who were unable to meet certain basic needs. We began on Whidbey Island in Washington State and in the course of almost 6 years, have expanded to help people in 7 counties.
We learned early on that, when this need was there, people were happy to help. We have helped the homeless, people fleeing abusive and trafficking situations, natural disaster survivors, refugees, low income, schoolgirls, incarcerated women and girls and anyone who has a need for whatever reason. We also learned early on that because of pride issues, fear and shame, ladies were hesitant to come out and collect free undergarments and feminine hygiene products. So, we now continue to collect these items and more but get them out to the public through 46 schools, vetted social service organizations, free stores and more.
Being a team of 15 dedicated ladies, we all work very hard and work well together relying on each other’s strengths. We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with period packing, sewing period packs, representing ISTG-Whidbey Island at various events on the island, collecting donations and more.
