Shavonne Broom has been the Affiliate Director of ISTG – San Antonio. Since starting ISTG – Mississippi, they have donated over 18,000 essential items to people in need in the greater San Antonio area. We checked in with Shavonne to highlight her incredible work in her community.
How did you get involved with ISTG?
“Getting involved in ISTG was a natural fit. I was working at a bra boutique and customers always asked where to send bras that no longer fit properly. After discussing with the owner, I decided to take the lead on becoming an ISTG Affiliate. It just made sense! There’s so many impactful moments as an affiliate. We bring communities together. Communities that want to support the cause with ones that say ‘we need this!!’ What we do has instant impact because the need is so apparent.”
What is your proudest moment during your time as an Affiliate?
“Recently our affiliate coordinated the shipment of 3K hygiene products to The American Legion and Health and Human Services to support the disaster relief efforts in Kerrville, TX. Getting these products in the hands of communities and organizations that actual need it is where the real magic lies. HQ worked diligently to get these supplies packed and shipped from MD within hours of the request. This organization is a real force for change.“

What advice do you have for someone wanting to make a difference in their community?
“If you want to know more about ISTG or thinking about becoming an affiliate, reach out to your nearest affiliate to offer support, ask questions, and develop a general understanding of the organization and what may benefit your area. Then execute the plan. HQ will certainly help you move the plan to action.“
